Stars Good Mystery with something missing
The mystery in this book is one of the best, with plot twists and surprises right up to the end. I was, however disappointed by some elements of this Goldy tale. As with most series mysteries you have to suspend your belief for it to work, how many caterers trip over dead bodies several times a year, but accepting Goldy getting away with what she does is going a little to far.

While catering an event for, best friend, Marla's current boyfriend, Goldy as usual manages to get far more involved in the investment firms business then she should. What follows are missing persons, missing money, and more red herrings than a well-stocked lake. I was very glad to see the general back as he was one of my favorite characters and the addition of Maguire with his "dirty harry" dreams is a welcome relief from the emotionally super-charged Julian. My biggest disappointment was the weakness of Tom and the police's reaction to the crimes committed by Goldy in this story. I found Tom less believable at the end this installment than in any other.

Stars Not the best Goldy, but still fun
Goldy the crime-solving caterer is back for another adventure. She caters a party for her friend Marla and her boyfriend Tony who is leading up a group of investors in a gold mine. Marla begins to suspect that Tony's partner Albert is crooked and she confronts him at the party. Soon Albert disappears with 3 million dollars and an attractive bank teller. Tony takes Marla on a camping trip with the intention of proposing to her, but he too disappears. Circumstancial evidence piles up and it all points to Marla as the guilty party. Goldy is concerned about what effect all of this will have on Marla, who is recovering from a heart attack. There are some scenes which follow that strain credibility and keep this from being one of the better books of the series. Still, all of Davidson's favorite characters are in the book and it's worth the read.

Stars One of the better ones in the series
I was leary when I read the beginning. In lieu of the recent tragedy and the terrible weather, I found it hard to suspend disbelief about that whole opening party by the mine. However, I'm glad I kept reading, because I loved the plot twists and turns. I like thinking about where those seemingly beneign details are going to turn out being important. I like the general. I was always annoyed by Julian so I prefer the new kid. I started with book one and am glad to have read in succession. I'll keep going, because she is an exceptional writer. Unfortunately, I do snack more when I read about all that food!
